This lead to Bethesda making a statement to not send review copies to sites such as any of the aforementioned. In 2015, Kotaku, a site notorious for spewing shit out of its mouth and vomiting unreliable info out its dickhole while pissing its opinion pieces out of its ass, decided to literally leak everything about Fallout 4 including the ending, the skills, etc. The death of news, reviews, and games journalism
What I’m trying to say is, “If you have no idea how to play a game and literally get stuck for five minutes on a tutorial where it tells you, literally in black and white, what to do and how to do it, don’t write about video games.”
You don’t see someone write about a sport they have no interest in. You don’t see someone writing about a car in a car magazine and they know nothing about cars. Crash Bandicoot had quite a great year this year, with an HD trilogy remake, teasers for the future, memes (though personally I felt that they got out of hand) and the new Ringed City DLC.īecause people had a hard time with Crash HD, saying the games that were once a breeze are now hard, they claimed they had become “Dark Souls.” Thus creating image upon image mocking not only those who said such a thing but also not realizing games have been a lot easier now, which probably desensitized a lot of people, myself included.Ĭuphead and Doom also ignited a debate. “Should people know how to play video games in order to review them or talk about them?” Short answer, yes. This year, calling things hard like Dark Souls, or calling something “The Dark Souls of This and That” has been at an all time high, more so with something rather simple. This hasn’t been a recent thing, calling a game “Dark Souls” if it’s hard. The Dark Souls of *Your choice of video games or genre here* Gamespot almost always talks about the Gameplay, and even talks about the game’s mechanics in depth. IGN reviews it negatively by presentation and its graphics, and barely talks about gameplay. (Creator’s note: Double Dragon Neon is one of my favorite games of all time, as well as Double Dragon being one of my favorite franchises. Gene, the main character from Godhand, is also extremely popular, and a highly requested newcomer for Marvel Vs Capcom. You may think that the reviews may seem kind of fair, right?Įxcept it’s one of the most popular games by Capcom on the PS2. You can’t spell ignorance without it! You may have also seen this image: You’ve probably heard that saying before about one of the biggest sites, IGN. Let me paint you a picture of why some game review sites are terrible, why games journalism HAS been hitting the shitter, and what the after math has been. I have seen people say “Well you can learn from games and then review the next game with that experience!” I see people say “Well maybe he was told to review that game and he didn’t know how to play it!” I see many people making many excuses. People defending EA’s Actions with Battlefront, the drama and “possible gay baiting” said by someone working on Dream Daddy, many review sites getting blasted for negatively reviewing things for the most ridiculous reasons (and even then, this isn’t something new), and of course, Games Journalists being in a field they have no or little experience with.
However, with the slew of good games comes many controversies. There’s not a single month where a bad game was released.
This year has been one of the biggest years for games.
